Christmas Lights , A Visit to Old Bethlehem
& BBQ - NEW!
Friday, December 13, $24 pp
Depart SCPL 2:45 p.m.; Return 10:45 p.m.
Join us for a celebration of
Christmas! Begin with a mouth-watering
meal at the Feed Store Barbeque in Burnet,
where you get your choice of a meat and two
sides, along with a soft drink or iced tea.
Then we will visit the ancient city of Bethlehem, faithfully
reproduced in Burnet. This experience is much more than a
living crèche. Become immersed in the biblical past, meeting
craftsmen, merchants, taxpayers, Roman soldiers, and regular
citizens as well as peddlers, beggars, revelers coming home
from the tavern, and the crippled who dwell on the fringes.
Explore narrow streets and savor the smells of fresh goat
butter, campfires and hot bread. Animals abound, including
goats, sheep, donkeys, chickens, doves, and even a camel. Hear
traditional Eastern music in the background. Bethlehem has
a synagogue, a tavern, a jail, and, of course, an inn with no
vacancies. The highlight of your visit will be following the trail
to the cave where believers can view the weary young couple
who were turned away and their newborn child.
Last, we will drive to view spectacular Christmas lights. In
Marble Falls we can walk around to see many displays in a
limited space. Johnson City’s lights include those at the Ped-
ernales Electric Company.
Note: Walking required if you wish to see everything.
However, you may stay in the bus or return to it as you
wish. Since the Bethlehem portion is outdoors, it may
be cancelled in event of rain.
Ticket cost includes dinner, Bethlehem admission, and lights
tour.
