Meteor Curiosities: Strange Flashes in the Sky
Meteors, often called shooting stars or fall-
ing stars, are well known. They are even
predictable, appearing the same dates each
year; however, some meteors display unusual
characteristics. Some explode, some leave long
trails, and some apparent meteors are caused
by unusual events. Surprisingly, even owls have been involved
in some meteors.

Activities with Jenny
We are often asked why there are not
more buses to some of our popular out-
ings. Although we are sometimes able
to add an additional bus, it is rare that
we do so because, due to leader avail-
ability and the detail involved, it is not
quite as simple as it seems.
All of our outings are created and led by trained Volunteer
Trip Leaders; we currently have 10 volunteers. To keep
our outings affordable and safe, we assign two leaders
with each bus outing. Those 10 volunteers led more than
100 trips last year!
The Volunteer Trip Leaders put a minimum of 20 hours
of prep work into that eight-hour trip you enjoy. They
call and negotiate contracts, create a budget, schedule
a timetable, and write the trip article you read in
Sun
Rays
. This special group of people put in many hours of
work to keep Sun City Texas residents active and enjoy-
ing life by traveling to various events and destinations.
Our residents give up their time in order to impact the
greater community in many ways. If you have sugges-
tions for improvement, please make the recommendation
to me, and also know that we welcome more qualified
volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer
Trip Leader, please let me know, and I will be happy to
discuss the role with you in more detail.
Also, be sure to check out our extended travel section
on page 100. We have travel brochures and books in the
Communications &Lifestyle Office; please stop inMonday
through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
