strength decreases 3 percent each year.
More practice won’t make me younger,
but I do have some pointers to make all
of us better.
Antioxidant-containing foods like fruits
and veggies are recommended, along with
vitamin D supplementation. Cardiovascu-
lar and resistance exercises play a major
role in preventing muscle loss. You don’t
have to run a 10k, but sidestepping along
the base line several times just to elevate
your heart rate is a good start.
Put a couple of water bottles in your pick-
leball bag along with your paddles and
lift the bag with one hand, then the other,
for resistance training. Wear the heavy
bag to do your sidestepping and march-
ing in place. While you are waiting for
a court, take out your pickleball towel,
place the ends in each of your hands and
pull the towel hard, squeezing your back
muscles. Push yourself just a bit more on
your exercise routine and you will see
those benefits happen.

Newly retired or a new resident to Sun
City Texas? Looking for a fun hobby that
you never had time to pursue? We build
them and we run them: airplanes, sail-
boats, helicopters, powerboats, cars, and
off-roaders. Come and learn how to do it
with a group just like you―we have lots
of members, men and women, new to the
hobby along with some seasoned hobbyists
who will show you how. We’re just over two
years old and we’ve grown to more than
140 members. We even have a computer-
controlled Flight Simulator if you don’t
want to do the “live stuff.” We “fly it” at
the weekly meetings. We also fly heli’s
and small airplanes in the ballroom one
Sunday a month and do other “fun stuff”
at Berry Pond and our off-site flying place
for the gas and large airplanes.
June Schedule:
Ballroomfly-in and car-
driving on Sunday, June 1: 11:30 a.m. to
1:30 p.m. will be for fixed winged aircraft,
and 1:30-3:30 p.m. will be for rotor craft.
Boating at Berry Pond will be on Sun-
day, June 29 at 1 p.m. Oh yes, informal
sailing every Tuesday and Saturday at
10 a.m. at Berry Creek Pond. No cars/
off-road vehicles in the ballroom in the
month of June.
We fly small electric airplanes on the golf
course driving ranges onMondays when a
course is closed for play. We also fly every
evening at the Cowan Creek driving range
after the golf shop is closed. We need light
wind conditions to fly, so our flying usu-
ally takes place in the early mornings or
evenings. If you see us out flying, stop by
and say hello.
