Junior Camp
Every June, Sun City Texas clubs provide
fun and educational events for the lucky
grandchildren at Junior Camp. This year,
the Nature Club SIG leaders will give
brief illustrated talks on the amazing
natural world of Sun City Texas to the
campers in the Ballroom. Stars, snakes,
birds, butterflies, plants and trees, and
rocks and minerals will be covered, so
that campers will enjoy and better un-
derstand their surroundings now and
on future visits.

As summer arrives, most of us are try-
ing to think of activities to entertain the
grandchildren who will be visiting. Why
not put the weeks in June that Junior
Camp is in session on your calendar?
Each year the Sun City Texas Pet Club
tries to be a part of this wonderful pro-
gram and will again in 2014.
Eighty campers enroll in each of the ses-
sions and are divided into four groups
based on age. The Pet Club has been
assigned the two youngest groups: Lil’
Doggies and Pardners on Wednesday,
June 18 and Wednesday, June 25 from
12:45-2:30 p.m. at the Legacy Hills Park
Pavilion.
We will be helping the campers create
pet blankets that will be donated to the
local animal shelters. Didn’t your chil-
dren—and now grandchildren and great
grandchildren—have a special blanket
that they felt secure with? Homeless
puppy dogs are no different. Fabric
was purchased for 40 blankets, which
should keep the young people occupied
for a time.
In a “Rally” the campers will have fun
leading dogs through a simple course—
with adult assistance, of course. What
a great time the children have working/
playing with different doggies.
Then, reading time will be just that—
sharing simple books with the quiet, well
behaved dogs. This provides quiet time
for both animal and child.
Don’t these activities sound like fun?
Why didn’t “grown-ups” have camps like
this when we were little?

Can We Turn Back the Clock?
Sort Of?
Excerpted From an Article by Barbara
Wintroub, USAPA Newsletter
As we become less active with age, “use
it or lose it” becomes a very real factor.
Yes, you are playing pickleball, but do
you claim a spot on the court and hardly
move from there? Have you ever tried a
few minutes of singles hitting? After age
50, there is a progressive loss of 1-2 per-
cent of muscle per year. At age 60, muscle
