F
or a little over 10 years, Peggy Red-
dick has been teaching Sit-n-Fit, a class
that has maintained popularity with
Sun City Texas residents since its be-
ginning and is also regularly aired on
Channel 79 each week. At first glance,
Sit-n-Fit seems to utilize slow, controlled
movements and breathing while sitting;
however, participants endure strenuous
exercise—while listening to their own
bodies—either standing or sitting.
This is a class for everyone, Peggy
says, no matter age, ailments or fitness
level. The class incorporates breathing,
strength and stretching exercises while
using weights, balls and thera bands—
not to mention the participants’ most
important asset: themselves!
Participants typically begin either stand-
ing or sitting, then move to the second
part of the class in which everyone sits.
Finally, participants move to the bar or
use the back of their chair for balanc-
ing exercises. However, class-goers are
encouraged to listen to their bodies and
do what they can, as they can; there is
no competition and no judgment.
“The biggest thing is to keep moving!”
Peggy says. “You’re more apt to exercise
in a class with others and by making a
habit of it. You’re going to build a bet-
ter quality of life and feel better about
yourself.”
Sit-n-Fit aims to provide:
• Better breathing
• Better balance
• Better posture
• Better strength & endurance
• Better flexibility
• Functional fitness
• Improves the 3 Cs—circulation, con-
centration and coordination
The regular group exercise class meets
three times a week at the Texas Drive
Fitness Center: Mondays at 12:50 p.m.,
and Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30
a.m. For Sit-n-Fit show times on Channel
79, see page 33. For more information,

Keep Moving with
Sit-n-Fit!
By Maggi Jones
I’m
81 and I’ve been in Sit-n-Fit since I had my knee replaced and off-
and-on since I started being clumsy and broke my thigh bone. The
doctors said I’d never walk again, but after therapy and Sit-n-Fit, I’m able to
walk with my walker and still go to class. All of the exercises make me stron-
ger, and Peggy works out with all of us and really cares about us. I really feel
like I owe a lot of my strength to Sit-n-Fit and Peggy.” ~
