visiting today – a history of roses! “A rose is a rose” -- well, not
according to The Antique Rose Emporium. A combination of plant
nursery, gift shop, and theme gardens, these roses on display
are “living antiques from the past.” Unlike replicas of antique
furniture or art, these roses are actual descendants of plants
from more than 2000 years ago. The emporium staff will give
us an orientation to the gardens and youmay stroll through this
fragrant and artful display.
With a little help from Mother Nature, we hope to also see a
beautiful display of Texas wildflowers along our way to Brenham
and through the back roads of Independence and Burton.
Note: We will stop at Bucee’s in Giddings, both ways, for
snacks and drinks.
Ticket cost includes transportation and tour fees.

stranded in a boarding house in the middle of
a snowstorm. Tomakematters worse, they are
trappedwith amurderer! This ultimatemurder

all over the world since 1952 and is the longest continuously run-
ning show in the modern era. (It’s been at London’s West End
for 61 years!) At the end of the play, audiences are traditionally
asked to keep the identity of the killer a secret. Now, it’s your
turn to know whodunit!
If you haven’t been to Vive Les Arts, a community theater in
Killeen, you will be very pleasantly surprised. (If you have been
there already, no doubt you’re anxious to go back.) It’s a great
theater for anyone, but Sun City is going to have preferential
seating and vouchers for a snack during the intermission as a
special welcome to our group. Following the show, we’ll stop at
Applebee’s for dinner on your own.

Gruene Gospel Brunch
with a Texas Twist - NEW!
Sunday, April 13, $56 pp
Depart SCPL 8 a.m.; Return 4 p.m.
Set amongst the rolling hills of Tex-
as, the small community of Gruene, settled by
the Germans around 1840, is one of our most
popular destinations. This outing is back by
popular demand! TheNewOrleans-style gospel
brunch in the famous GrueneHall is led by Bret Graham, a local
boy, along with “The Gospel Silvertones” one of Austin’s finest.
The music and entertainment lasts about ninety minutes and
ends with a bang!
The one and only Gristmill Restaurant caters the all-you-can-eat
buffet which includes roasted turkey breast, roast beef, Polish
sausage and pepper bacon. Mashed potatoes, migas, scrambled
eggs, French toast, biscuits and fruit alongwith coffee accompany
themeal. What a feast! Seating is family style at long, picnic-type
clothed tables. If you need a cushion, please bring one.
After all of that food and entertainment, we have two hours to
roam this historic town, shop and hopefully see some bluebon-
nets. Note that walking around town is over uneven and unpaved
walkways. Wear comfortable shoes.
If you prefer, after the brunch, tables are removed and country
music begins at 1 p.m. so feel free to sit, relax and enjoy more
toe-tapping music.

Harp Ensemble – UT Bates Hall - NEW!
Monday, April 14, $18 pp
Depart SCPL 4:15 p.m.; Return 9:30 p.m.
This gem of a performance hall, with its
rich array of musicians, brings all kinds of
music from around the world to our doorsteps.
Tonight we will be entertained in elegant fash-
ion by an array of harps played byUT students
and faculty. Did you know that the earliest evidence of the harp
is found in Ancient Egypt in 2500 BC? This evening’s repertoire
will feature music for all ages and cultures. We’ve previously
attended jazz, organ and Caribbean ensembles – and now for
something totally different. The hour-long concert will leave us
feeling like “angels floating in the clouds.”
Before the concert, we will go to the Domain for dinner on your
own. You’ll depart the bus at Jasper’s, right in the center, where
restaurants such as Black Finn, North, California Pizza, McCor-
mick and Schmick’s, and Starbucks are withinwalking distance.
You are free to grab a bite and shop or enjoy a leisurely dinner
on your own or with friends.
After dinner, we’re off to the UT School of Music, which houses
the concert hall.
Note: There are a few steps to enter the building and a
long walk to the stairs and elevator.
Ticket cost includes transportation and concert. Deadline to
purchase tickets is April 10.
