Have you ever thought about being a
Volunteer Trip Planner? The top three
skill sets and personality traits re-
quired for Volunteer Trip Planners are:
1. Organization & Office Skills
(detail-oriented, computer-literate, willingness to
persevere)
2. Personal Skills
(self-starter, creative, ability
to take charge, flexibility, willingness to handle
problems)
3. People Skills
(positive attitude, good communi-
cation skills, realistic expectations, recognition of
others’ needs, sensitivity)
Our volunteer trip planners meet once a month to re-
view current and future trips, and discuss ideas and
venues that we would like to go to or revisit. Each
volunteer trip planner puts together an itinerary and
budget for a trip that they plan to lead. They gather this
information by contacting bus companies, restaurants,
and other places of interest.
The volunteer trip planner meets with me, and together
we review the trip, checking timing and payment sched-
ules, as well as advertising/publicity methods to promote
interest in the outing. After plans are made, all pertinent
information collected is then given to me for contract
signing and check payments.Volunteer trip planners
create articles about their outings which are published
in the Sun Rays and also on the Sun City Texas website
). If ticket sales are slow, we also put
this information in the CA Activities e-blast.
The volunteer trip planners are the main contacts for
the outings they plan―and, thus, are likely to get emails
and questions from residents. (Note: There is a lot of
email communication involved, so being comfortable with
email is very important.) If you are still reading and still
interested, please contact me at 512-948-7392 or jenny.
. I look forward to hearing from you!
