ANNE HOKE
New Neighbor Welcome Program
Neighborhood Representative
CA Communications Committee
Scott & White Hospital
For newer residents (as well as those
who have been here longer), Anne Hoke
may be a familiar name and face. When
Anne and her husband Eric arrived in
Sun City Texas in January 2011, she
immediately immersed herself in the
Sun City lifestyle. As one of the first to
move in to her neighborhood, Anne be-
gan attending NRO meetings to meet
fellow residents, learn about the com-
munity, and start organizing events for
her neighborhood. Soon after, she was
recruited to help with the New Neigh-
bor Welcome Program, which she has
chaired for more than two years, and
also became the representative for her
neighborhood, N54.
Anne’s background is in communications
and organization. She has degrees in
journalism and English, and worked as
a teacher and principal in San Antonio
for many years. After her work with the
NRO—as a representative, the chair of
the New Neighbor Program, and after
working as the NRO liaison for the Com-
munications Committee–she decided to
apply her skills directly by applying to
be on a CA committee. She was accepted
and joined the Communications Commit-
tee in summer 2013.
Anne describes volunteering as a way
of “jumping in” to the lifestyle of Sun
City Texas. “I can’t imagine moving
to Sun City and not wanting to be in-
volved, because that’s why most of us
move here―to meet people and to get
involved in the lifestyle. This is the best
way. I would not know one-tenth of the
people I know, see, and enjoy, if I weren’t
volunteering,” Anne said.
Not only does Anne devote her time to
Sun City Texas and neighborhood proj-
ects, but she also volunteers at Scott &
White hospital once a week. To Anne,
volunteering and supporting the com-
munity—either Sun City or the greater
Georgetown area, or both—is a way of
providing and showcasing leadership.
“I think it’s very important in this com-
munity that we be role models, because
that’s how our society will function ef-
fectively,” Anne said. “I think everyone
in this community has been blessed with
success in one way or another, and we
need to provide some leadership.”
For new residents, and those who are not
so new, Anne has one suggestion: Come
out and join the fun! Unpacked boxes,
unchecked emails, and all other chores
will be there when you get back, but now
is the time to get out of the house and
meet your neighbors and get involved!
Why not try it? Jump in!
