Ron Garland dedicated his life to serving
his community. He spent 39 years work-
ing professionally for the Boy Scouts of
America, then retired to Sun City Texas
with his wife, Barbara. Ron and Bar-
bara are both native Texans, but moved
back to Texas from Oregon to be closer
to kids and grandkids. Retirement, how-
ever, brought out even more dedication
in Ron and Barbara. They immediately
became members of the Rotary Club of
Georgetown—a continuation since Ron’s
initiation in 1972; he has been a member
of the Rotary Club wherever he has lived
across the country. Ron also became a
volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America,
a member of the Georgetown Chamber
of Commerce, a supporter of Williamson
County Community Coordinated Child-
care (WC4C), an Eagle Booster, and a
resident ambassador for Pulte.
In 2010, less than a year after moving to
Sun City, Ron decided to apply to be on
a CA Committee. He originally wanted
to be on the Finance Committee, but
was steered to the Property & Grounds
Committee in the process. Since then,

Ron Garland has been involved with Rotary Clubs across the country since 1972. He
is currently the president of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, while also spending his
time supporting the Boy Scouts of America, the CA Property & Grounds Commit-
tee, and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, among others. Most recently, he
and his wife, Barbara, were voted “Citizens of the Year” for 2012 by the Georgetown
Chamber of Commerce.
taining the aesthetic value of the com-
munity, while also upholding the safety
of the residents and supporting three
healthy golf courses. He also realized
how important it was to be involved in
the community’s governance: “I realized
we had this self-contained community
that was only going to be as good as the
people who involved themselves in the
governing process.”
Ron believes that a great community is
dependent upon the people living in it
and holds that to be true, especially in
Sun City Texas and Georgetown. “I’ve
always had an interest inmaking certain
the community I live in is a great place to
live, and I now had the time to dedicate
into that purpose,” Ron said.
To Ron, each of us have a role in making
our community great—it’s up to us how
we decide to contribute.
