Pickleball Club
Contact: Sue March,
Pickleball has a greater emphasis on
strategy than brute strength or killer
serves. A smaller court means more time
hitting the ball and less darting around.
Our membership at Sun City Texas has
people from their mid-50s to their 80s
playing and enjoying the game. It is an
ideal sport for older adults because any-
body at any age can play.
Our players enjoy the game much more
because they don’t think about exercis-
ing, but having fun.
The rules are simple. Played on a bad-
minton-size court, the game begins
with an underhand serve from behind
the baseline. The ball must sail over the
34-inch high net and bounce into the op-
ponent’s service box.
Once the opponent return the serve, the
ball must bounce back into the server’s
court. Only after this “double bounce”
are players allowed to volley (return the
ball without a bounce). No volleying is
permitted within seven feet of the net.
Points can be scored only by the serving
team. Play goes to 11 points.
Our motto tells it all: Fun, Friends and
Fitness.
We have free training classes: Contact
Richard Bradley at rlbradley1963@gmail.
com to register for one of these training
classes. Come try playing pickleball and
see what everyone is talking about!

Newly retired or a new resident to Sun
City? Looking for a fun hobby that you
never had time to pursue? We build them
and we run them: Airplanes, Sailboats,
Helicopters, Powerboats, Cars, and Off
Roaders. Come and learn how to do it
with a group just like you…lots of mem-
bers, men and women, new to the hobby
along with some seasoned hobbyists who
will show you how. We’re just over two
years old and we’ve grown to over 130
members. We even have a computer con-
trolled Flight Simulator if you don’t want
to do the “live stuff.” We “fly it” at the
weekly meetings. We also fly heli’s and
small airplanes in the Ballroom one Sun-
day a month and do other “fun stuff” at
Berry Pond and our off-site flying place
for the gas and large airplanes. Septem-
ber schedule: Ballroom fly-in on Sunday,
October 6, 1-3 p.m., and Boating at Berry
Pond on Sunday, October 27, 1 p.m. Oh
yes, informal sailing every Tuesday and
Saturday at 10 a.m. at Berry Pond.
We also fly small electric airplanes on the
golf course driving ranges on Monday’s
when a course is closed for play. We need
light wind conditions to fly so our flying
usually takes place in the early mornings
or evenings. If you see us out flying, stop
by and say hello.

their own beverages to this evening event.
Three more RV trips are scheduled for
2013:
October 20-30:
“Heritage Tour to
Waco, Ft. Worth & Oklahoma City”
November 27-31:
“Thanksgiving at
the Beach”
December 4-7:
“Kerrville & The Hill
Country”
Details and contact information are
available on the website. Members are
encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
The RV club brings together those
residents of our active lifestyle com-
munity who also enjoy the RV lifestyle.
The result is a great combination for
friendships, travel and adventure. We
currently number nearly 100 rigs of vir-
tually every style and configuration. Our
members organize group RV trips to a
wide variety of destinations throughout
the year, which are listed on our website.
We meet once a month except June, July
and August, when many of our members
are away traveling. Interested residents
can find membership and other infor-
mation on the club website or from our
contact above.
