can attend, pay dues online or deliver a
check (payable to SCTXCA) to the Mem-
ber Services Office. New member dues
for the remainder of 2013 are $6.
Member Appreciation Lunch –
Wednesday, October 9
The Garden Club is hosting lunch at
El Monumento
for the October meet-
ing. Entrées, selected from on-site lunch
menu, also include iced tea and water.
Members pay $6 (check payable to SC-
TXCA – deliver to the Member Services
Office
by noon on October 4
). The club
will pay the balance, including taxes and
tips. Tours of restaurant gardens will
follow lunch. To carpool, meet at 11 a.m.
at Legacy Hills Park for an 11:05 a.m.
departure.

Homestead Heri-
tage
inWaco will depart the Social Cen-
ter at 9 a.m. and return at 3 p.m. The
self-guided tour includes the working
homestead, flower/ herb gardens and
craft buildings. You may shop in the
General Store
and visit
Café Home-
stead
for lunch on your own. If you
prefer to bring lunch, there is a picnic
area. Participation is limited to the first
56 members who pay $10 each (again,
checks payable to SCTXCA – deliver
to the Member Services Office

Join us on the trail! The Hiking Club will
sponsor more than 75 group hikes this
year, as well as four social events. Hike
destinations include not only nearby sce-
nic areas, such as the San Gabriel River
Trail and Lake Georgetown’s Goodwater
Loop, but also more far-flung locations,
such as Enchanted Rock State Natural
Area and Colorado Bend State Park. Par-
ticipants can choose their individual level
of hike difficulty, ranging fromWalker to
Exerciser to Challenger. Trails vary from
three to twelve miles in length. Poten-
tial members are welcome to take part
in an introductory hike. Obtain details
on scheduled hikes and special events
by logging onto the CA web portal. After
accessing the Hiking Club site, click on
a specific date on our Calendar. Instruc-
tions for applying for membership are
accessed by clicking on Contact Us > Ap-
plication Form. Our extensive website
also contains helpful guidelines on hike
procedures and equipment.

Gonzalo “Doc” Garza traveled in July
to the U.S. Senior Olympic Games in
Cleveland, Ohio, where he competed and
won a gold medal for his age group in
horseshoes. The HAWKS are very proud
of Doc Garza. (See Doc’s photo in the
Around Sun City section).
All residents and their guests are wel-
come to join us for Horseshoes on Tues-
day and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m.
Recently, our club voted to sponsor the
Shuffleboard Special Interest Group
(SIG); we are honored to be associated
with this group.
Shuffleboard SIG
Sun City Texas has an active Shuffle-
board group; approximately 20 indi-
viduals belong to the Shuffleboard SIG
and 20 other residents also play at the
two courts (adjacent to Bocce Courts,
and next to Horseshoes and Washers).
The courts are open every day to resi-
dents. Although there is no league play,
members of the SIG and other residents
