The following special events are taking place in October.
DENIM & DIAMONDS FUR BALL
The Williamson County Animal Shelter
will host its annual Denim& Diamonds
Fur Ball on Saturday, October 5 from
6-9:30 p.m. at the Marriott North, 2600
La Frontera, in Round Rock. The event
will have dinner and an auction. To do-

R.O.C.K. HORSESHOE TOURNEY
Register now for the Horseshoe Tourna-
ment hosted by the R.O.C.K, Ride OnCen-
ter for Kids, Horseshoe Club on Sunday,
October 6. All proceeds will be used for a
memorial statue to honor all those horses
that have been equine partners at R.O.C.K.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BINGO
Bingo in the Ballroom will be on Sun-
days, October 6 and 27 in the Social Cen-
ter Ballroom. Doors open at 5 p.m., and
games start at 6 p.m. Cash prizes will be
awarded. All proceeds are used to support
various charitable activities. Contact John

NAVY’S 238TH BIRTHDAY
Now hear this! Avast ya pack o’ land-
lubbers, on Sunday, October 13, at 1730
hours, a party will be held at the VFW
Post 8587, at 1000 N. College St., to cel-
ebrate the Navy’s 238th Birthday. All
ye Skimmers, Bubble Heads, Airdales
– come join us! You can tell sea stories,
lies, etc., and have chow/grog around the
scuttlebutt. Tickets are $10 each and
are available by calling Bob Kelety at

868-8846. All donations will be used to
repair the VFW Hall.
CHISHOLM TRAIL DAYS
On Saturday, October 19, don your cow-
boy hats and boots and head on over to
San Gabriel Park for an authentic long-
horn cattle drive! The event kicks off
with a Cowboy Breakfast at 8 a.m. and
ends at 1 p.m. Festivities include West-
ern music, a children’s corral, barbecue,
Western Living History Camps, hands-
on-activities and more! Free admission

CATTLEMAN’S BALL
Saddle up and two-step your way over to
the second annual Cattleman’s Ball, hon-
oring the Avery family of Round Rock,
on Saturday, October 19 from 7-11 p.m.
at the Georgetown Community Center.
The western-style gala includes a steak
dinner, entertainment, and silent and
live auctions. For tickets and informa-

event benefit the Museum’s educational

HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL
The 19th annual Halloween Hayride
& Carnival, sponsored by the George-
town Parks and Recreation Department,
will be held Thursday before Halloween,
October 24, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the
Georgetown Community Center in San
Gabriel Park. Sign up for a hayride,
enjoy the carnival and visit the Trick-
or-Treat Village. The movie

BOO RUN 5K & FUN RUN
The Exceptional Georgetown Alliance
(EGA) will host the fifth annual Boo Run
5K and Fun Run on Saturday, October
26 in San Gabriel Park. Wear your fa-
vorite costume in this event which funds
EGA’s goal to provide educational, recre-
ational, social and vocational programs
to youth with cognitive and developmen-

ART IN THE SQUARE
On Saturday and Sunday, October 26-
27, the “Most Beautiful Town Square in
Texas” will become an outdoor fine art
gallery! More than 150 fine and contem-
porary artists gather to sell their wares,
ranging in media from clay and sculp-
ture to paintings and metalwork. For

GISD MENTOR PROGRAM
Mentoring can make a big difference in
a child’s life. By dedicating as little as 30
minutes a week with a student, you can
improve self-esteem and encourage kids
to stay in school, improve academic skills,
and provide support for newattitudes and

Right now Williamson-Burnet County
Opportunities, the Meals onWheels pro-
vider for Georgetown, has over 70 seniors
on its waiting list, including 12 fromSun
City. Due to funding cuts over the past
several years, we have been unable to add
