CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY
The Georgetown Citizen Police Academy (CPA)
is a 12-week course designed to educate the
community about Georgetown Police Depart-
ment protocol and procedure. Classes meet once
a week.
GPD believes that educating the public on such
topics as crime prevention, police procedures, and how not to be a
victim is paramount in fulfilling our duty to the public. A police
department is only as strong as its citizens’ support and assis-
tance. It is our philosophy that police should always maintain a
healthy relationship with the public.
The Georgetown CPA is taught by law enforcement officers and
provides citizens an inside view of the daily activities of the police
department. The curriculum includes laws and code of crimi-
nal procedure, criminal and accident investigations, lethal and
non-lethal weapons, crime scene investigations, victim services,
hostage negotiations, gangs, officer safety, and the court system.
The course is held twice a year, in spring and fall. The next CPA class
is scheduledtobeginMarch20. Formore informationor toapply, visit:
The upcoming Georgetown Citizen Police Academy class will be
the 25th class since the program’s inception. There have been
approximately 800 citizens who have graduated from the CPA.
There is no cost to attend the Georgetown Citizen Police Academy;
however, classroom space is limited, so classes are limited to 35
people. To enroll in the next class, it is best to apply as soon as
possible before the class fills up. For more information, call or
email the Volunteer Services Center at 512-930-8457 or vips@
georgetown.org.
CPA Alumni
To join the Georgetown Citizen Police Academy Alumni Associa-
tion (CPAAA), a person must be a graduate of the CPA. CPAAA is
a State of Texas nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation. CPAAA members
work on a variety of projects for our police department. These
projects include Blue Santa, National Night Out, Law Enforcement
Field Day, Take Me Home, and other programs. Park Rangers
also must be CPAAA members. CPAAA membership currently
consists of about 160 volunteers.
