Market Investing

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) meet twice
a month to read articles written by experts
and dissect their investment strategies.
Sometimes a SIG will focus on the ba-
sics of investing; sometimes on advanced
analysis. Sometimes they will study the
investment methods of leaders likeWarren
Buffet, Mike Swanson, Benjamin Graham,
and others.
Contests keep the discussions lively, wheth-
er it’s guessing the close of the S&P 500
on November 1, or seeing who can invest
$100,000 of theoretical money for the most
profit.
Donna Kaelke, a member who considers
herself a novice investor, said she joined to
become “more intelligent” about investing.
The club is always sensitive during discus-
sions to those who may need more expla-
nation, Donna said. The benefits to her
frommembership have been an increased
investing vocabulary, knowledge of helpful
websites, and new ideas for investing.
Charles Echard, club president who was
also one of the founding members not
long after moving to Sun City Texas in
2002, said the club does not pool money
and invest as a group, but members at
all experience levels can profit from the
presentations and discussion. “Our club is
for the wealthy and those who wish they
were,” he said.
The club meets on the first Tuesday of
the month at 11 a.m. in the Atrium of the
Activities Center. Dues are $5 a year. For
more information, visit the club’s website at
> Site Index > Investment
Education Club, or see page 115.

The club meets monthly to hear speak-
ers, exploring all avenues of investing that
could help members become prudent and

potential purchases, investing for women,

needs a will, how to deal with a spouse’s fi-
nances after a death, andmarket updates.
Occasionally the discussions focus on cur-
