OCTOBER
YARD OF THE MONTH
514 INDEPENDENCE CREEK (N62)
AGGIE AND CHICK GLADWIN
A soaring American flag is the first object
noticed when viewing this relaxing land-
scape, featuring plants that are Firewise,
native and adapted. Drip irrigation, a seat-
ing area, a water feature, low lighting and
various creative objects of interest are all
around. Butterflies love the Gregg’s mist-
flower, mandevilla, flame acanthus and
other trumpet flowers. A cactus garden,
lantana, roses, sago palm, rosemary, hi-
biscus, Mexican oregano, Jerusalem sage,
purple heart, sea oats, and a native non-
invasive pyracantha topiary are a few of the
various plants that comprise this lush year-
round landscape. This Yard of the Month
demonstrates that it’s possible to create a
Firewise landscaped yard that is attractive,
low maintenance, and drought-tolerant.
