Oldies But Goodies Dance

The Oldies But Goodies Club is where the
“young at heart” dance to the music of the
golden oldies. The club is open to any Sun
City resident who enjoys dancing to those
“oldies but goodies.” We have five dances
a year which feature the classic hits of the photos are exhibited at the Activities
’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Our three remaining
dances for 2016 will be on Saturday, July
16; Saturday, Sept. 10 and Thursday, Nov.
3. After the successful and well-attended
April 20 dance, the OBG Club will have
the GTOs perform again for the September
dance.
All dances will be held in the Social Center Photoshop Elements, PSA, and PSA-
Ballroom. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and
dances start at 7 p.m. Dues are $10 per
person. All dances are free to members.
BYOB and snacks. Ice and water will be
provided. Non-members and guests are
welcome to attend any event at $10 per
person payable at the door.

We will be holding Pet Partner Therapy
Dog Team evaluations June 11 and 12
in the Salado Room at Cowan Creek. We
need four to six volunteers to help with
the evaluations every two hours. If you
would like to help, please contact the Pet
Club. It’s a fun experience.
The Reading Education Assistance Dog
(R.E.A.D.) workshop will be held June 25
at the Activities Center on Texas Drive. If
you are a registered Therapy Dog Team
and would also like to become a R.E.A.D.
Team, contact the Pet Club for more in-
formation.
Dog training classes are wrapping up
for the summer. Fall classes will start in
September. Contact the Pet Club for more
information on dates, times, etc.
Dog training tip of the month: Training
your dog is a forever commitment.
You should train every day on various
commands - it only takes five or ten
minutes, once or twice a day. Your dog
will love the one-on-one attention and you
will get a better companion for the effort.

General Meeting: The June meeting
If pickleball sounds like the game for you,
starting at 1:45 p.m. for social time in
the Georgetown/Florence Rooms at
Cowan Creek Amenity Center. Visitors
are welcomed.

Legacy Grill, the Photo Studio and the
club website.
Special Interest Groups: SIG meetings
are held in the Photography Studio.
Current SIGs are: Advanced, Competition,
Lightroom, Nature, Photoshop-CC-CS,
Print, and Story Telling with Pictures.
Field Trips: Monthly field trips
offer members great photographic
opportunities. There is a brief session
prior to the field trip to discuss trip details
and logistics; another get-together takes
place after the trip to share experiences
and photographs taken.
Membership: The 2016 dues are payable
and $5 for each additional family member
until June 30. You may join through the
Sun City Texas website.
Pickleball

Pickleball is a fun, active game that
combines the elements of tennis,
badminton and ping-pong. Played on a
doubles’ badminton court with paddles
and a perforated plastic ball, all it requires
are workout clothes, court shoes and a
desire to play the game. Whether you are
new to pickleball or a seasoned veteran
with tournament experience, we have a
level of play suited to your needs.
Our club offers a free introductory
training class for beginners. It provides
a fundamental overview of the rules of
the game. We also sponsor a Beginner’s
Mentoring Program, in which some
of our more experienced players assist
newcomers with skill development and
basic court strategy. Of course, the best
way to become proficient at pickleball
is to actually play the game. More
experienced players can improve their
skills by competing in league play and
participating in scheduled tournaments.
With the added visibility the new lights
on Courts 5 and 6 provide, court play is
now extended until 9 p.m.

If you like to play Texas Hold’em or
Omaha High / Low, come and join other
Sun City resident players and have a great
time. Players come and go at their leisure
throughout the days of play.
All of the events listed take place in the
Activities Center located at 1 Texas Drive.
All Sun City residents are welcome to join
the club. Dues are $10 per resident and
that allows each member to participate in
as many of the games as he/she desires.
