Joe Gadberry doesn’t need to be prodded or cajoled. The former Joe Gadberry

“Not only is he physically stronger,” Don adds, “but he’s more
confident in his own strength. Personal training has changed
his view of himself in a positive way.”
Joe and his wife, Betty, moved to Sun City Texas in April 2014
from Kansas, where he taught microbiology at the medical school
level before becoming an administrator. By July, he had already
attended the monthly personal training tutorial and selected Don
as his trainer. “Don gives me positive feedback and motivates
me to attain higher levels of physical fitness,” says Joe. “Plus, he
makes these challenging workouts enjoyable. He always encour-
ages good posture while I exercise, and that’s carried over into
my daily activities.
“I’m not a Charles Atlas,” says Joe, 75, “but some people seem
surprised that I can bench press over 200 pounds. I continue to
strive and build on that. From my perspective, Don’s workouts
and my exercise regimen help me maintain a healthy body both
physically and mentally. It’s a work in progress, but my cardiolo-
gist has given me good reports.”
Don points out that even though Joe is able to lift heavy weights,
he has never once injured himself, mainly because he is “very
good” about following directions. “Everyone wants to lose weight
