Get ready for
an exciting 5 days in the west Texas Panhandle!
Amazing sights and activities await you!
Monday: On our first day we will travel
west with rest stops along the way and see miles (literally!) of
windmills. We will stay at the Drury Inn in Amarillo which
includes complimentary breakfast and a snack nightly.
Tuesday: Our day begins with a tour of the Harrington Historical
House, and then we visit the iconic Cadillac Ranch. This classic
piece of road art along Route 66 has been here since 1974. The
Cadillacs have now been in the ground as art longer than they
were on the road as cars. They are stripped to their battered
frames, splattered in DayGlo paint and barely recognizable as
automobiles.
Then it is on to The Big Tex, famous for its huge steak eating
challenge. We will spend the afternoon at the Quarter Horse
Museum. A special Tuesday evening begins with a steak dinner
in the canyon followed by a backstage tour of the amphitheater,
nestled into a natural basin in the majestic Palo Duro Canyon,
where we will enjoy the musical “Texas!”
About the musical “Texas!” – A lone horseman, carrying the flag
of the great state of Texas appears atop a 600 foot cliff, signaling
the beginning of the most spectacular outdoor musical drama in
the world. With a burst of fireworks and a moving swell of music,
the horseman gallops away. Suddenly, a cast of more than 60
actors, singers and dancers takes the stage to kick off the show
that millions of fans from all around the world have come to see.
Only a state as big as Texas could host a show as big as “Texas!”
Wednesday: We begin this morning with a tour of the Goodnight
Historical Center and Ranch with a brief stop at the Buffalo Gold
Premium Fibers shop. The Goodnight home is one of the most
important historic structures in the Texas Panhandle. Charles
established the first permanent cattle raising operation in the
