Panhandle. The center has recently announced the arrival of a
live buffalo herd.
Other Wednesday activities: Pampa for lunch on your own; White
Deer Museum; Kwahadi Museum of American Indian for dinner
and show. The museum exhibits give a glimpse into the cultures
of the people of the Pueblos and Plains. There are displays of fine
paintings, bronzes, beadwork and other cultural items.
Thursday: We begin our day with a guided tour of Palo Duro
Canyon followed by lunch on your own at Feldman’s in Canyon.
Our afternoon stop will be at the Texas Panhandle Museum.
You will find the heart of Texas art, the free spirit of the Taos
and Santa Fe schools, and the unsurpassed Southwest American
Indian art here. Unlock the hidden world of the ancient past
through the paleontology, geology and archeology areas while
learning about the rich history of the region and seeing some of
the finest examples of American fashion in the Textiles Gallery.
Friday: Drive home to Sun City with rest stops along the way.
Notes: You must manage your own luggage; bring cash to tip
driver $3 – 5 per person per day; pack comfortable walking shoes,
camera and charger, reading material for bus ride, light jacket,
snacks. Tickets are non-refundable.
Ticket cost includes transportation, admission to all attractions,
4 hotel nights, 4 breakfasts and 2 dinners.

Soap Box Derby – Marble Falls - NEW!

On your marks, get set, let’s go! It’s
time for the 7th annual Marble Falls Soapbox
Classic.
This Father’s Day weekend will open your eyes
to a whole new grown-up, adult version of soap box derby racing.
Before the race begins, you may stroll along historic Main Street
and visit with the race teams as they put the final touches on
their entries. You will find sleek engineered racers mingled with
inventive creations.
The race will pit driver against driver in a gravity-fueled dash to
the bottom of the Third Street Hill. Over a thousand feet from
start to finish, you will find a bit of mayhem mixed with a lot of
madness that results in a few crashes as you cheer your favorite
team across the finish line. Don’t forget your camera, and ladies,
don’t forget your hats, for what is a Derby without a Derby Hat
contest? ($5 entry fee; 2 categories – traditional and outrageous)
Show off your fancy hat and win a prize.
Find food and drink vendors stationed in between shaded cafés,
eclectic shops and live music venues. A bit of something for
everyone – art, antiques, fads and fashion to chocolate shops,
wineries, micro brews and burgers. A festival schedule and map
will be provided. There is a section of shaded bleachers or you
may bring a camp chair.
