With moves, grooves and a book full of tunes, Club Karaoke
of Sun City Texas is ready to rock!

Karaoke in Sun City was almost non-existent in 2007, when
several Sun City residents heard that the Rattlesnake
Inn on Hwy. 195 was hosting a once-a-week karaoke
night. They decided to try it, and it wasn’t too long before other
Sun City residents were joining them for karaoke and a burger.
During this time, the conversation about having a place in Sun
City to sing karaoke began.
When the café at White Wing was remodeled and became Café
on the Green, the new management contacted long-time resident
and karaoke fan Buzzy Hart to ask whether he thought there
would be enough interest to support having a karaoke night on
Tuesdays. The answer was a resounding “yes” and the DJ at the
Rattlesnake Inn was recommended to host the weekly sessions.
Thus, the experiment began on the patio of Café on the Green.
When the weather was too cold (or hot) outside, the group was
moved inside and enjoyed even larger crowds. At first, Café on
the Green offered free burgers to anyone who was brave enough
to venture to the microphone. Well, it was a huge success, and
it wasn’t long before a reservation was required to get a table
for Karaoke Night. Frequently, even the bar area was standing
room only.
In early 2013, Café on the Green closed for remodeling and the
“Karaokers” were left with no place to sing. By June of 2014,
still with no facility for karaoke, several singers, led by Mike
Glackin, decided to form a chartered club. The official application
was submitted on June 30, 2014 and was approved by July 10,
2014. Club Karaoke was born! Although total membership now
stands at 117, not all are singers - some just come to hear and
dance to the music.
Club Karaoke hosts several parties each year, including Christmas
and New Year celebrations and random pizza nights. Yearly
dues are $12 per person and members bring their own favorite
beverages and snacks. Club Karaoke is open every Wednesday,
from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., at the Cowan Creek Amenity Center.
