Hiking

Even in the dog days of August, we have
tree shaded, early morning hikes avail-
able. Early morning is also a good time to
see wildlife as they too take advantage of
the cool mornings to feed and play. Day
hikes for the month of August include:
Brushy Creek West on August 1: Sun
City Trail #1 on August 10; Twin Springs
Preserve on August 19; Pfluger Park on
August 25, and Picket Trail on August
30. If your interest is piqued, join us for
an introductory hike before you become
a member. Contact the hike leader for
a hike you are interested in and call or
email them so they can guide you on the

Horseshoes & Washers

Horseshoe Courts

Newly arrived homeowners have been
joining our club, but we need more players.
Long-time residents are missing out on fun
and fellowship! Many of you have played
horseshoes in parks and at family picnics,
so what are you waiting for to join us? Our
club maintains 10 well-kept courts, so come
on down!
Shuffleboard SIG
Sun City Texas has an active Shuffleboard
group; approximately 20 individuals
belong to the Shuffleboard SIG and 20
other residents also play at the two courts
(adjacent to Bocce Courts, and next to
Horseshoes and Washers). The courts are
open every day to residents. Although there
is no league play, members of the SIG and
other residents gather at the courts at 9
a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday to play
for one hour. Newcomers are welcome to
join us any time.

Late summer is always a busy time at
Sun City Gardens. Planting is underway
for our fall growing season.
We are gearing up for our Fall Iris Sale to
be held this year on September 10 from
9 a.m. to noon. Circle that date on your
calendars now for purchase of bearded
iris in all classifications. Newer varieties
will be sold as either bare rooted or potted International Language Learning
rhizomes. All varieties will be identified
by name, classification and photo.

Hunting: Leases and day hunts are
available for dove and deer. High fence
game preserve hunting and hog hunting

Sport shooting: Club members organize
events and outings at a local shooting
range. Skeet and trap shooting:
Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. Pistol shooting at
a variety of targets in several scenarios:
first Fridays, 9 a.m. Pistol target
shooting: first and third Wednesdays.
