JUNE Play Schedules
CGA News
Submitted by Sandy Phillips
The CGA held its first official match play
tournament, the Bluebonnet Tourna-
ment, over two consecutive weekends in
April and May. Plans for more of these
fun events are in the works.
With summer nearing, playday shotgun
starts will change to 8 a.m. Our next
playday will be June 21 with a beat-
the-heat 8 a.m. shotgun start at Legacy
Hills. Be sure and visit our website at
> Site Index > Couples
Golf Association Club to register to play.
You will find a wealth of information on
the website, such as playday and social
event dates, membership information,
tournament and playday results, how
to register for events, and answers to
frequently-asked questions!
If you haven’t yet joined the CGA, be

9/25 Demo Day
Who would have ever thought that a golf
event scheduled for April 15 would have
to be cancelled because of near freezing
temperatures? Our Eclectic Tournament,
which was to take place two consecutive
weeks, had to be pushed back a week. A
huge thanks to Lee Ray Matthews, who
was able to accommodate our course needs.
At the conclusion of the first day of the
tournament, the social committee treat-
ed everyone to a fabulous assortment of
snacks—wine, cheese, meats and fruit—a
perfect end to a fun day on the course.
Day two of the Eclectic Tournament was
chilly and very windy, but we persevered
and played the round. Remember, the
tournament involved playing the same
nine holes two weeks in a row. Players
competed in both low gross and low net.
Winners were declared by combining the
score cards, then taking only the best
scores on each hole. Low gross winners
were: Flight 1 – Sylvia Quillin; Flight 2 –
KayMerritt; Flight 3 – Kempa Rider; and
Flight 4 – Grace Frei. Our 14th Annual
Sun Bowl was on Tuesday, May 20—read
all about it in the July

GOLF
on non-potable water.
The decrease in water use is due in large
part to better water management by Golf
Staff. In 2012, Golf received an upgrade
in their computer systems and software
for their Rain Bird Irrigation System, al-
lowing them to more accurately oversee
their water use.
Coupled with better management, the ad-
dition of water wells has contributed to a
sizeable reduction of the money spent on
non-potable water. 2011 saw the comple-
tion of six wells in Sun City Texas—since
then, we have seen the addition of four
more wells. About 75 percent of water
from these wells is used for golf course
irrigation.
As aforementioned, from November to
March, the 10 water wells are the only
source of non-potable irrigation; therefore,
during these months, little money is spent
on non-potable water for our golf courses
and common areas. Because of the im-
proved supervision of water consumption,
dollars spent during peak summermonths
has continued to decline. Since 2011, Sun
City Texas has saved almost $200,000 in
water costs.
The Board, Staff andCommittees continue
to work at improving the conservation of
both our water and monetary resources.
Hopefully, with the help of Mother Nature
and the ever-changing weather of Central
Texas, we can sustain our downward trend
of water consumption and dollars spent.
