Moby Dick's Pond

Event Date: Monday, March 18, 2024
Event Time: 8:00 am
Event Category: Fishing

Meet Time and Location: 8:00am at The Retreat parking lot (south side). Vehicle caravan leaves promptly at 8:10am. Let's see if there's any interest? I canceled the fishing dates last fall due to lack of signup. Either the interest has waned or I've promoted Moby Dick's enough so that folks go fish on their own. Win!

Recommended Suitability:   Ability to rig and cast baits.  While participants may assist each other, this is a "fish on your own" bank fishing experience. Shared restroom facilities are rustic via one or two usable porta potties.  This is an unguided event.

Registration Limit: 15 anglers.  Members and member guest welcome.  Be sure to register any guests.

About Moby Dick's Pond

Moby Dick's Pond is a sweet 4 acre private fishing pond located an hour away in Bastrop, Texas.

Costs: It costs $15 for two hours (minimum) fishing, then $5 hourly rate for additional time. Also give $5 to carpool driver for gas/tolls expense. CATCH & RELEASE ONLY. Opens at 9:00 am. Handicap accessible. Portable toilet on site.  Approximately 10 fishing dock platforms around the lake, plus easy access fishing from the shore. Bring a long-handled net. A folding stool or chair would also be handy. No treble hooks for catfish. Soft plastics and artificial lures (with treble hooks) are fine for bass. Must call and book reservations. It's a little tricky to find. But look for the mail box (see below) with the orange triangle and turn left. Road dead ends at Moby Dick's. Call me and I can talk you through the directions. (Plus, the owners can text directions). I've fished it multiple times with other Sun City R&GC members and we almost always catch fish even on windy days.

Typical fishing schedule: Leave SC at 8:00ish. Arrive at Moby Dick's around 9:00. Fish two hours or so, then grab lunch (usually BBQ) in Bastrop or (optional) bring a cooler with picnic food/drink, and go home. Easy day. Fun fishing!  Recommend carpooling. Register thru the calendar.
