SUN CITY IPPA OPEN MIC Events

IPPA Open Mic events are a great place for both newer and more-experienced musicians can showcase their talents and entertain the Sun City community. Open Mics are for those who play instruments like guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, etc. We will provide all necessary sound equipment. Just bring your instrument with plug-in capability plus your voice. If you play an instrument but don’t sing, you can invite a vocalist to join you.

No prior performance experience is necessary – just a desire to have fun and share your music. You can play anywhere from two to five songs, as long as you stay within the 15-minute time limit. A complete listing of the Open Mic rules is below. If you have questions, please contact our IPPA development director Barbara Bergin at [email protected].

SUN CITY IPPA OPEN MIC GROUND RULES

  1. The IPPA OPEN MIC will start promptly on the scheduled date and scheduled time.
  2. Only IPPA members will be allowed to perform at the Open Mic.
  3. This is the Instrument Playing Performing Artist (IPPA) Open mic. This is not a venue for comedy acts, poetry reading, or acapella singing.
  4. The SIGN-UP LIST will be available 45 minutes before the scheduled start time, but you can come sign up any time after that.
  5. Given the 2-hour time slot at Mulligan’s, in addition to the Open Mic host, approximately 7 musicians will be able to perform each evening. Additional performers can sign up, and will be able to play if time allows. If you signed up, but were not able to play because time ran out, yet you remained for the open mic, you will have priority placement at the next open mic.
  6. You can place your name in any slot on the list, however, you will be asked to move up if no one else puts their name in the slots before you. If you leave after signing up, and are not available to move up, it is possible another artist will be inserted in your place. Please stay and have fun listening to everyone else!
  7. Each artist will perform four songs or for 15 minutes, whichever comes first. It’s okay to play fewer songs or less time. Your “performance” will include the time you use to talk in between songs. There will be a big-faced clock on the stage. The host may choose to give a time warning. Avoid tagging on a long song when you know you only have a few minutes left.
  8. You may sing covers or original music.
  9. Be prepared with your set list.
  10. Have your guitar tuned ahead of time.
  11. The IPPA will provide a mic and stand, cords and the PA system. Specialized PA equipment is not allowed.
  12. Pre-recorded background music or loop recordings will not be allowed.
  13. As a courtesy to your fellow musicians, please stay and listen to the other performances, if you can!
  14. Unlike band/dance performances, open mics are more of a “listening room” venue. Please be courteous.
  15. Individual or duo performances only. The open mic will not be technically adapted for multiple artists or instruments. In the case of a duo, there will still only be PA equipment for one instrument and one mic. Extra time will not be added for duos.
  16. Let us know your choice to stand or sit ahead of time.
  17. BRING FRIENDS AND FAMILY! Order food and beverages, so we can maintain our spot at Mulligan’s by bringing our business to this special place.
