An arrogant, chauvinistic advertising executive (Mel Gibson) acquires the ability to hear what women are thinking. Using his newfound power in all the wrong ways, he initially sets out to sabotage his female boss (Helen Hunt) so he can take over her role in the company. However, he soon finds himself not only understanding his feminine counterparts on a more genuine level, but he ends up falling in love with the very woman he sought to ruin.
