Recommended Suitability: This is a hunting trip for upland game bird shooters who are knowledgeable shotgun users familiar with gun safety practices in the field while hunting with small groups. Quail and Chucker are hunted on a 900 acre ranch composed of black land prairie, post oak savannah, pastures and bottomlands. Guides provide trained flusher dogs for each hunt. Mike Schumann is the owner and lives on the ranch. Dime Box Tx is 90 minutes from Sun City. Cars can use the ranch roads. No off-roading. Recommendations: - 20 to 12 gauge shotgun: #6 shot for pheasant and #7 1/2 shot for chucker and quail
- You can shoot unplugged shotguns-recommended for quail.
- Quail hunting requires 2-5 hours of walking. You can take breaks per the guide, plus the dogs need breaks in warm weather.
- Shooting glasses are required.
- Bring a vest and an article of hunters orange.
- Footwear that is thorn proof and waterproof.
- Ice chest with drinks and lunch and for processed birds.
- Alcohol may be enjoyed after the hunt.
- There is a shooting range for clays. It is suggested you practice before going afield.
Full Day Guided Hunts: - Monday through Thursday $275 Customary to tip the guide in cash.
- Friday through Sunday $300 Customary to tip the guide in cash.
- Hunts are 9am-4pm and sometimes shorter depending on the weather.
- Bird processing is included and birds will be bagged for transport.
- The usual season begins in October and goes through March.
- Each hunter averages 13 birds for take-home.
Scheduling Hunts: The Hunting Director for SCR&GC or his designed Coordinator will schedule quail hunts and advertise the dates via email and Calendar. Most quail hunts will be scheduled during the week with a team of 4 hunters. Do to a special arrangement for SCR&GC, Mike Schumann does not require deposits from us.
