Canadian Fishing

Event Date: Thursday, August 22, 2024
Event End Date: Tuesday, August 27, 2024
Event Category: Fishing

The trip dates are August 22nd - 27th for the 4 days & 28th for the 5 days.

The lodge had 12 openings (three are already signed up – me, Robert Burton & Erv van Beck.)

Everyone is responsible for booking their own travel arrangements and accommodations along with contacting Delaney Lake Lodge (800-401-9281) to reserve their spot & pay the $700 deposit.  You can either fly to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada or Minneapolis on August 22nd and drive by rental car to Nestor Falls, Ontario, Canada.  It is a 3-1/2 – 4 hr. drive from Winnipeg or 6-7 hr. (plus border crossing) drive from Minneapolis.

There are two places recommended to stay - Arrowhead Resort & Motel (807-484-2132) or Clark & Crombie (807-484-2114).  We fly into Delaney Lake the next morning by float plane leaving around 7 a.m. for an ½-1 hr. flight.  This is considered Day 1 and is unguided.

The lodge provides the bait & boat.  Fishing gear (i.e. rod/reel) is not included in the package price.  It may be rented from the lodge for $35.  Tackle is also additional and purchased at the lodge.  If you want a guide, you can reserve one for ½ day ($250/2 person boat for ½ day).  All other days are guided (1 guide/2-person boat).

After fishing days are completed, you leave the next morning and return by float plane to Nestor Falls.  We leave on the return flight after new guests are unloaded.  There are some return flights that you might be able to catch that afternoon, but I am planning on staying the night by Winnipeg airport and catching an early morning flight to Austin.

The lodge will fillet and freeze two walleyes for each of us to take home.  We will need to buy our own airline freeze box for transport home which they say can be purchases in Nestor Falls.

This trip into Canada requires a passport and they will not let you into the country if you have a DUI on your record.

Please sign up on the calendar so I may know who is going, and try to pair you up with another angler, if you don't already have a fishing buddy.  I'll have breakfast meeting at Mulligan's once we've got more signed up to discuss everything and answer any questions.
