A musical adaptation of the original film released in 1985 and the 1982 novel by Alice Walker. Torn apart from her sister and her children, Celie faces many hardships in life, including an abusive husband. Deliverance comes in the form of a jazz singer named Shug Avery as well as her stepdaughter who take Celie away from her misery. She ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.
