A fiercely independent widow named Helen (Ellen Burstyn) is under pressure from her daughter to move into Pine Grove retirement community. Although Helen opposes the move, she has few options after she locks herself out of her home again, but this time, a cooking fire destroys her kitchen. Since repairs will take at least a month, she moves temporarily into Pine Grove. Once there, Helen initially has trouble fitting into the social scene dominated by the Queen Bees, led by Janet (Jane Curtain). Helen's interest in bridge and a growing relationship with a new resident named Dan (James Caan) make her begin to feel more at home. |
