In a small Louisiana community, M'Lynn (Sally Field) is the mother of bride-to-be Shelby (Julia Roberts). Their friend Truvy (Dolly Parton) owns the local salon and while she is styling their hair for the wedding, Shelby, who is diabetic, has a health scare that nearly dashes her hopes of having children. As time passes, the women and their friends encounter tragedy and good fortune, while growing stronger and closer in the process. |
