In the saga of Texas history, no era is more distinctive or accented by epic events than Texas' struggle for independence. Travel to the sites and hear the stories of the men and women who pioneered a new republic, forged a legendary spirit and created the Lone Star State of Texas. Tuesday: "Come and Take it!" Battle of Gonzales; Presidio La Bahía-historical Spanish fort in Goliad; Fannin Monument & Battle Grounds-exhibit and boxed lunch (with ticket purchase choose: ham, turkey or veggie sandwich); Museum of the Coastal Bend in Victoria "Where Texas History Begins." Wednesday: George Ranch Historical Park-23,000-acre working ranch with 3 homesteads and cattle complex, and chuckwagon bbq lunch; National Museum of Funeral History-a kooky bit of fun. Thursday: A bird's eye view from the top of The San Jacinto Monument with battlegrounds, museum and the Battle of San Jacinto movie "Texas Forever!"; fresh seafood lunch (with ticket purchase choose: fried shrimp or blackened tilapia) at Monument Inn, a landmark restaurant; San Felipe de Austin State Park-the Colonial Capital of Texas and museum.
