Established along the San Antonio River by Spanish explorers, the missions embody the centuries-long evolution of Texas as a Spanish colony, Mexican state and independent republic. Our first self-guided tour will be Mission San Jose - The Queen of the Missions. This mission complex includes a visitor's center, 20 minute film and a gift shop. Next is lunch on your own at Mi Tierra or La Margarita in the El Mercado, the original Mexican Market. Following lunch we will stop to see the world's largest Virgin Mary Mosaic Candle, then it is back on the trail to finish the afternoon with tours of Missions Concepcion, San Juan, and Espada.
