Free Tax Preparation & Electronic FilingEvery Friday Feb. 1 - Apr. 12 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Cowan Creek Amenity Center, Jarrell RoomAARP Tax-Aide Foundation is once again providing free, in-person tax preparation advice/services in Sun City. How it works:- Normally, there 20-30 people waiting for tax help to begin at Cowan by 8 am.
- AARP can accommodate around 60 – 70 taxpayers each Friday.
- Each return takes approximately 45-60 minutes to prepare and then another 30-45 minutes to review/discuss with the taxpayer.
- There are 17 volunteers who work each Friday and there isn’t space for more volunteers.
- Two of the volunteers maintain the sign-up sheet and quality review schedule; 14 volunteers prepare/review tax returns. There is a supervisor who “floats” between all functions.
Sign-In Sheet:- There is a sign-up sheet and it is recommended that you come early and put your name on it.
- When the sign-up sheet reaches 65 taxpayers, they inform the taxpayer that they have to come back another Friday or go to another site in Georgetown.
- To eliminate the over-crowding that occurs at Cowan, they start taking phone numbers for those individuals whose number on the sign-up sheet is above 25. They then call them when their time to see a counselor approaches.
