The Gault Archaeological Site October 8, 2018 Located just 18 miles north of Sun City is an extensive, multicomponent archaeological site. It bears evidence of almost continuous human occupation, starting at least 16,000 years ago - making it one of the few archaeological sites in the Americas at which compelling evidence has been found for human occupation dating to before the appearance of the Clovis culture. A member of their research staff will provide a three hour guided tour of the site which will include cultural, environmental, and geological aspects of the site from the modern age back to 15,000 years ago. We'll be carpooling to the site. We'll meet at 8:15 am in the social center parking lot - one row over from the tennis courts. Wear good walking shoes, hats, and sunscreen. We'll be covering about 1 1/2 miles. A golf cart will be available for a maximum of three people who are not able to walk that far. The cost of the tour is $10 per person (cash or check only.) We'll have lunch after the tour in a restaurant in Florence and should return back to Sun City by 2:00pm or so. |
