If you think quilts are boring and out of date, think again! Whether elaborate in design or presenting a bold mission statement, modern-day quilts are spectacular works of art. They are not necessarily quilts in the usual sense, but rather decorative pieces to be hung on walls and exhibited in the best museums of the world. The Houston International Quilt Show which began in 1974 is the largest quilt show in the world. Attracting 65,000 visitors and exhibitors from 23 countries, it leaves Houston with a ‘no vacancy’ sign. The most popular quilt will be the Best of Show, leaving you breathless as you hear the owner explain the design. Show includes around the world quilts, Christmas and children’s quilts. You will have the opportunity to attend lessons and free demonstrations to enjoy. NOTES: The convention center is large and will be very crowded. Wear comfortable shoes for lots of walking. You must go through security and are not allowed to bring in food or water but there are places to purchase food and beverages within the center. We will make a rest stop going and returning. Ticket cost includes transportation, program and entrance fee. Maximum tickets: 44 Volunteer Trip Leader: Ellen Mire |
