The musical Once follows the 2007 movie and book of the same name. Once has received numerous awards, and productions at Zach Theater are always a treat. The musical is unique in that the cast also serves as the orchestra on stage. Set in Dublin, the story follows the life of a young man singing ballads in a bar while pining away for his lost love who has moved to America. Suddenly in comes a Czech girl, who, after listening to him play, thinks he has talent and plays his songs at the piano while he accompanies her on the guitar. The patrons in the bar applaud and a light flickers in the young man’s eyes. Eventually she is able to convince him to get his music career back on track, contact his lost love and move to America while she continues her life in Dublin with her husband and daughter. Our pre-matinee lunch on your own will be in downtown Austin. Choose from restaurants such as Gus’s Fried Chicken, Café Blue, Uncle Julio’s, P. F. Chang’s, Crepe Crazy and others. We will arrive at the theatre in time for pre-event music and to purchase coffee or drinks. We will leave immediately after the production. Ticket cost includes transportation and musical.
