Falstaff, the comic opera in three acts composed by the Italian Verdi, revolves around a fictional character mentioned by William Shakespeare in The Merry Wives of Windsor.  A fat and boastful old knight, Falstaff spends his days in local Windsor, England taverns with his less than honorable friends living on stolen or borrowed money.  As his fortune dwindles, he develops a scheme to seduce two married women to gain their husbands’ wealth.  He sends identical letters to the two women proclaiming his love but as they discover his plot, a plan of their own takes shape, and the result is a hilarious comedy.  This opera has been performed for centuries and is ageless.  It will be held in the 400 seat UT McCullough Theatre with a 35 piece orchestra.
