Come join us for this Pilgrimage during Natchez’ 300th birthday. The city opens its arms with pageantry, home tours with costume period guides and lovely gardens. Saturday – Travel day with rest stops along the way. Arrive Hotel Vue in Natchez, MS. Sunday Morning – Tour Longwood, Melrose, and Stanton Hall. Longwood – Construction of this grand, octagonal home, began in 1860, but was halted in 1861 by the Civil War. While the exterior was mainly completed, the home’s interior was left unfinished except for the lower level. Melrose – Now part of the Natchez National Historical Park, this site contains slave dependencies, amazing formal gardens and landscaped park. Stanton Hall – Frederick Stanton, Irish immigrant and cotton merchant, began construction of his dream home in 1857. It is a palatial Greek Revival style home in the center of Natchez. It was completed only months before his death and was occupied by Union troops during the Civil War. Sunday Lunch (included) – Twin Oaks, antebellum home with chef Regina Charboneau Sunday Evening – Enjoy the play Southern Exposure, Natchez’ own hilarious 1950s Broadway satire of the homes, homeowners and tourists of Pilgrimage. Monday – Travel to Vicksburg Military Park and tour with step on guide (7:30 a.m. departure, 72 miles). Film and guided tour; chicken dinner lunch (included) on the way back at Lorman Country Store where TV personality Alton Brown did a show on this restaurant. Tuesday – Guided tour – Letters from the War at Fort McPherson, the earthen wall fort in Natchez; lunch (included) at Magnolia Hall with tour; afternoon Spring Pilgrimage Tour of three homes – Richmond, Selma, and Brandson Hall. Wednesday – Frogmore Cotton Plantation tour. Listen to the slave customs, secret music, and the relationships with the master, mistress, and overseer.
