Explore another chapter in Texas history as we visit a site that has stood for over a century as the legendary spirit of Texas.  Our story begins at the State Cemetery, a museum unlike any other in the state. The people who have made Texas so Texas are here – from politicians to soldiers, lawmen to educators – along with intriguing history, fascinating headstone designs and unusual inscriptions.

Next is Scholz Garten, the oldest beer garden in Texas and home to some fine barbeque.  Lunch features smoked brisket and turkey, potato salad, coleslaw, beans, bread, soft drinks and a scoop of Amy's Mexican vanilla ice cream.  Following lunch we will have time to stroll the State Capitol grounds and take in a little “sidewalk history” before our scheduled tour.

Our Capitol tour will begin in the south foyer with its impressive statues and a terrazzo floor depicting the twelve battles fought on Texas soil.  A Capitol Guide, well versed in the Capitols history and lore, will guide us through the rotunda and dome, House and Senate chambers, Governor's public reception room, and the Supreme Court.  We will finish in the Capitol Extension with a short question and answer session.

Ticket cost includes transportation, tour fees and lunch.
